An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts
Online Streaming Act. Royal assent April 27, 2023 (S.C. 2023, c. 8). First substantive Broadcasting Act overhaul since 1991. Brings streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, YouTube) under CRTC authority on the same terms as Canadian broadcasters: contribution to Canadian content funding, discoverability requirements for Canadian works, and registration with the CRTC. Drew Senate amendments narrowing the scope on user-generated content.
