An Act to amend the Canada Pension Plan
Bill C-207 (45-1) is an NDP Private Member's Bill from Heather McPherson to amend the Canada Pension Plan so that a province cannot set up its own separate pension plan unless at least two-thirds of the provinces that do not already have one consent. It responds to Alberta's proposal to leave the CPP for a stand-alone Alberta Pension Plan, which critics warn could raise costs and cut benefits for retirees in the rest of the country. The bill aims to make any provincial exit from the shared national plan a collective decision rather than a unilateral one.
