C-218Government of Canada
An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying)
Restricts the expansion of medical assistance in dying (MAID) to mental-illness-only cases by delaying the eligibility-extension provisions of the 2021 MAID amendment indefinitely. Companion provisions strengthen safeguards for current MAID requests where mental illness is comorbid.

Delays indefinitely the part of MAID law that would have let people whose only condition is mental illness qualify. The mental-illness extension has already been delayed several times; this bill would make the delay permanent until Parliament expressly votes otherwise.
