An Act to amend the Criminal Code (prohibition — promotion of antisemitism)
Bill C-250 amended the Criminal Code to criminalize the wilful promotion of antisemitism by condoning, denying, or downplaying the Holocaust. Sponsored by Conservative MP Kevin Waugh (Saskatoon-Grasswood), the substantive provisions were incorporated into the Budget Implementation Act, 2022, No. 1 (Bill C-19, S.C. 2022, c. 10, section 332) and received royal assent on June 23, 2022. The new offence is section 319(2.1) of the Criminal Code. Canada joined a growing list of countries (Germany, France, Austria, Poland, Israel) with Holocaust-denial criminal statutes. Maximum two-year sentence on indictment.
