An Act to amend the Aeronautics Act (collision avoidance system)
Bill C-259 was a Private Member's Bill amending the Aeronautics Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. A-2) to require collision-avoidance systems (Traffic Collision Avoidance System, TCAS, and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, ADS-B) on federally regulated commercial aircraft, harmonizing Canadian regulations with US FAA and ICAO Annex 11 international standards. Transport Canada Civil Aviation regulations currently require TCAS-II on commercial aircraft over 19 passenger seats; the bill would extend requirements to smaller commercial operators. Brought after the 2017 Tofino BC Leviathan II sinking inquiry surfaced gaps in Transport Canada commercial-vessel oversight (referenced as parallel concern). Did not pass second reading.
