An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (amount of full pension)
Bill C-261 in 45-1 was an NDP Private Member's Bill amending the Old Age Security Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. O-9) to raise the amount of the full Old Age Security pension. The current OAS maximum (as of October 2024) is approximately $727 per month for those aged 65 to 74 and approximately $800 per month for those aged 75-plus (the 10-percent boost for 75-plus was added by Bill C-12 of 44-1, S.C. 2022, c. 5). The bill called for the 10-percent boost to be extended to the 65-to-74 cohort, equalizing OAS across the senior population. Approximately 7 million Canadians receive OAS payments per Employment and Social Development Canada data. Companion to long-standing Bloc Quebecois advocacy. Did not pass second reading.

Quick learn
Bloc private member's bill that would raise the full Old Age Security pension amount. The current OAS has a two-tier structure where those 75 and over get more than those 65 to 74; supporters argue this is age-discriminatory.
