An Act to amend the Excise Act and the Excise Act, 2001 (adjusted duties - beer, malt liquor, spirits and wine)
Bill C-266 was a Conservative Private Member's Bill amending the Excise Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. E-14) and the Excise Act, 2001 (S.C. 2002, c. 22) to freeze federal duties on alcohol and tobacco products at 2022 levels rather than the previous automatic-annual-CPI-indexation rule introduced by the Trudeau Liberal government's 2017 Budget Implementation Act 2. The automatic indexation was capped at 2 percent for fiscal 2024-2025 by the 2024 federal budget. Beer Canada, the Canadian Vintners Association, and Spirits Canada had lobbied for the legislative freeze. Did not pass second reading.
