An Act to establish a national strategy for eye care. Royal assent June 20, 2024 (S.C. 2024, c. 10). Liberal private member's bill sponsored by Judy Sgro (MP for Humber River-Black Creek). Requires the federal government to develop a national strategy on eye care in consultation with provincial governments, the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the CNIB Foundation, and other stakeholders. Particular focus on macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy as drivers of preventable vision loss; Statistics Canada estimates over 8 million Canadians have an eye disease that could cause vision loss.
