An Act to amend the Telecommunications Act (transparent and accurate broadband services information)
An Act to amend the Telecommunications Act (transparent and accurate broadband services information). Royal assent November 7, 2024 (S.C. 2024, c. 24). Conservative private member's bill sponsored by Dan Mazier (MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa). Requires telecommunications providers to publish standardized broadband speed and reliability information in their service-area advertising, so consumers can directly compare 'up to' speeds across providers using a common methodology set by the CRTC. Particular relevance to rural and Indigenous communities where advertised speeds rarely match real-world performance.
