An Act to amend the Territorial Lands Act
Bill C-326 was a Private Member's Bill amending the Territorial Lands Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. T-7) to update federal jurisdiction over Crown lands in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Brought after the 2019 Yukon devolution agreement transferred most federal land-administration authority to the Yukon government but several federal-jurisdiction Crown lands remain. The bill addresses concerns from Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut governments about consultation timelines under the Modern Treaties and Final Agreements frameworks. Did not pass second reading. The 2024 federal budget allocated $4.5 million for territorial-Crown-land consultation modernization.
