An Act respecting the development of a national strategy on student loan debt
Bill C-328 was a Private Member's Bill establishing a federal framework for a National Strategy on the Reduction of Student Loans, including federal-provincial coordination on student-loan forgiveness, expanded Canada Student Loans Program eligibility, and reduced interest rates. Canada Student Loan interest was permanently set at zero on April 1, 2023 by the 2023 federal budget (Bill C-47, Budget Implementation Act 2023, royal assent June 22, 2023, S.C. 2023, c. 26, sections 196 to 199), removing the prime rate for new federal student loans. C-328 did not pass third reading and was overtaken by the budget.
