An Act to amend the Criminal Code (orders prohibiting the possession of weapons)
Bill C-376 was an NDP Private Member's Bill amending the Criminal Code section 110 (orders prohibiting the possession of firearms) to add a five-year prohibition on the possession of restricted and prohibited firearms automatically upon conviction for any intimate-partner-violence offence. Currently a section 110 firearms prohibition is at judicial discretion for offences punishable by maximum penalty under 10 years. The bill responded to the 2023 Mass Casualty Commission final report (the Turner-MacDonald report into the April 2020 Portapique mass shooting) which made multiple recommendations on firearms-and-domestic-violence intersection. Did not pass second reading.
