An Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Transport Act
Bill C-385 was an NDP Private Member's Bill amending the Motor Vehicle Transport Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. 29, 3rd Supp.) to update federal-provincial regulation of interprovincial trucking. Brought after several 2023 federal-provincial coordination gaps surfaced (e.g., New Brunswick provincial-inspection rejection of Quebec-licensed trucks; Ontario-to-Saskatchewan long-haul-driver-training disparities under the Mandatory Entry Level Training framework). The Canadian Trucking Alliance and Teamsters Canada both supported parts of the bill; provinces resisted federal scope expansion under section 92(13) of the Constitution Act, 1867. Did not pass second reading.
