An Act to amend the Canada Disability Benefit Act
Bill C-422 was an NDP Private Member's Bill amending the Canada Disability Benefit Act (S.C. 2023, c. 17, royal assent June 22, 2023) to raise the benefit level. The current Canada Disability Benefit pays approximately $200 per month ($2,400 per year) as of 2025 delivery, below the federal Market Basket Measure poverty line of approximately $4,200 per year for a single adult. The NDP, Green Party, and Disability Without Poverty advocated for a Canada Disability Benefit closer to $14,800 per year (the gap between disability-support recipients' average income and the poverty line per Statistics Canada Canadian Survey on Disability 2022). Did not pass second reading.
