An Act to amend the First Nations Fiscal Management Act, to make consequential amendments to other Acts, and to make a clarification relating to another Act. Royal assent June 20, 2023 (S.C. 2023, c. 16). Substantial expansion of the First Nations Fiscal Management Act framework. Strengthens and expands the authority of the three First Nations financial institutions (First Nations Tax Commission, First Nations Financial Management Board, First Nations Finance Authority) created in 2005. Adds new property-tax-administration powers, allows for federal funding to flow more flexibly through the First Nations Finance Authority, and updates governance of the three institutions. Drives a substantial expansion of First-Nation-led economic-development financing. Sponsored by Patty Hajdu as Minister of Indigenous Services.
