An Act respecting the Commissioner for Modern Treaty Implementation. Tabled November 7, 2024; did not advance to royal assent before the 2025 dissolution. Would have created an independent Commissioner for Modern Treaty Implementation to monitor federal compliance with the over 25 modern Indigenous treaties (comprehensive land-claim agreements and self-government agreements) currently in force across Canada. The Commissioner would have reported annually to Parliament and had subpoena and investigative powers. Long-standing ask of the Land Claims Agreements Coalition and the Auditor General of Canada. Sponsored by Gary Anandasangaree as Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations.
