An Act to amend the Department for Women and Gender Equality Act
Bill S-218 was a Senate Private Member's Bill amending the Department for Women and Gender Equality Act (S.C. 2018, c. 27, s. 661) to strengthen the federal Department for Women and Gender Equality (WAGE Canada) mandate and oversight authority. Brought to address recommendations from the 2019 Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (231 Calls for Justice) and the 2022 Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence federal-provincial-territorial framework (worth $539 million over four years).
