An Act respecting non-disclosure agreements
Bill S-232 was a Senate Private Member's Bill respecting non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) used in workplace-harassment and sexual-misconduct settlements. Brought after PEI passed Canada's first non-disclosure agreements act (PEI Bill 109 of 2021, prohibiting NDAs to silence sexual-assault and discrimination survivors), with Manitoba (Bill 225 of 2022), Nova Scotia (Bill 144 of 2022), and Ontario (Bill 22 of 2022) following with provincial frameworks. The Senate bill would create a federal-jurisdiction framework prohibiting NDAs that silence survivors of workplace sexual misconduct in federally regulated industries (banks, telecoms, transportation, federal public service). Supported by Can't Buy My Silence campaign. Did not pass second reading in 45-1.
