An Act respecting the recognition of wartime service
Bill S-246 was a Senate Private Member's Bill respecting the recognition of wartime service of Canadian military personnel through expanded eligibility for the Canadian Forces Decoration and related federal-honours frameworks. Currently the Canadian Forces Decoration is awarded for 12 years of long service in the Canadian Armed Forces; the bill aimed to add wartime-service recognition for specific conflict periods (the Persian Gulf War 1990-1991, the Yugoslav Wars peacekeeping 1992-2004, the Afghanistan mission 2001-2014). The Royal Canadian Legion and the Veterans Affairs Canada Veterans Ombudsman had advocated for expanded wartime-service recognition since 2016. Did not pass third reading.
