An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (data on registered charities)
Bill S-279 (44-1) was a Senate Private Member's Bill from Senator Ratna Omidvar to amend the Income Tax Act so registered charities would report demographic data about their directors and senior officers to the Canada Revenue Agency, which would compile and publish it. The aim was a clearer picture of how well charity leadership reflects the communities served, after sector studies found boards skew older, whiter, and more male than the population. The data would be gathered through the existing T3010 charity return, and the bill set no quotas. Canada has roughly 86,000 registered charities. It did not pass third reading.
