Christine Frechette is the 33rd Premier of Quebec (since April 15, 2026) and Leader of the Coalition Avenir Quebec (since April 12, 2026 when she won the CAQ leadership over Bernard Drainville with 58 percent of the vote). CAQ MNA for Sanguinet on the South Shore of Montreal, first elected in 2022. Before politics she was a senior executive at the Quebec Chamber of Commerce and the Federation des chambres de commerce du Quebec. Served as Quebec Minister of Immigration, Francisation and Integration from October 2022 to August 2024, then Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy from August 2024 until stepping down to run for the leadership in January 2026. The second woman to serve as Premier of Quebec after Pauline Marois (2012-2014). Faces a Quebec general election scheduled for October 5, 2026 with the CAQ trailing in polls.
