Danielle Smith is the 19th Premier of Alberta (since October 11, 2022) and Leader of the United Conservative Party. She sits in the Legislative Assembly for Brooks-Medicine Hat. Before politics she was a journalist and radio host. Previously Leader of the Wildrose Party from 2009 to 2014 and Leader of the Official Opposition in Alberta 2012-2014, ultimately leading a controversial floor-crossing to the PCs in December 2014. Won the UCP leadership against six other candidates in October 2022 succeeding Jason Kenney; signature legislation includes the Alberta Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act (2022) and the Provincial Priorities Act (2024).
