Liberal MP for Willowdale (Toronto). Former trade and investment lawyer; chair of the Industry committee. Born in Iran and educated in the United Kingdom and Canada, he practised international trade law at McMillan LLP in Toronto before federal politics, with particular focus on Investment Canada Act and CUSMA dispute resolution. First elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019, 2021, and 2025. Chairs the House Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, where he has led the committee's reviews of competition-policy reform and federal AI-regulation legislation. Has been a leading Liberal voice on Canada-Iran human-rights questions.
