NDP MP for Vancouver East since 2015 and a co-Deputy Leader of the federal New Democratic Party. Before federal politics she was the BC NDP MLA for Mount Pleasant from 1996 to 2015, becoming one of the youngest women elected to the British Columbia legislature and serving as a provincial cabinet minister, including as Minister of Community Development. In Ottawa she has been the NDP's lead critic on immigration, refugees and citizenship, and on housing, and a prominent voice on the Hong Kong and Uyghur human-rights files.
