
Doug Downey is Attorney General of Ontario (since June 24, 2022). MPP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, elected in 2018. Before politics he was a real-estate and municipal lawyer in Orillia for over 20 years. Previously Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General (2018-2019). As Attorney General he has overseen the modernization of Ontario's Family Law Act, the changes to the Justices of the Peace Act, the Ontario judicial-appointments reform, and the provincial response to the federal Bail Reform Act of 2023 (C-48 of 44-1) including the joint federal-provincial-territorial pressure that triggered C-48.
