
Demetrios Nicolaides is Minister of Education of Alberta (since June 9, 2023). MLA for Calgary-Bow, elected in 2019. Before politics he was a political science instructor at the University of Calgary and the American University of Sharjah. Previously Minister of Advanced Education (2019-2023) under Jason Kenney, where he oversaw the controversial 2021 Skills for Jobs Blueprint that cut $735 million from post-secondary funding. As Education Minister he has continued the K-6 curriculum redesign begun under LaGrange and the 2024 cellphone-in-classroom directive.
