John Haggie is a former Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal MHA for Gander, first elected in 2015 and serving until the 2025 provincial election, when he chose not to seek re-election; Bettina Ford succeeded him as MHA for Gander. By training a consultant general surgeon at Gander's James Paton Memorial Regional Hospital, he became Minister of Health and Community Services in the Dwight Ball Liberal cabinet in 2015 and continued in the role under Andrew Furey, making him one of the longest-serving provincial health ministers in NL history. As Health Minister he oversaw the COVID-19 response, the consolidation of the four regional health authorities into a single NL Health Services entity, and the Stephenville long-term-care home replacement.
