Josh Matlow is a Toronto City Councillor for Toronto-St. Paul's (Ward 12), first elected in 2010 and re-elected at every general election since. An NDP-aligned independent, he ran for Toronto mayor in the June 26, 2023 by-election following John Tory's resignation, finishing seventh with 5 percent of the vote behind Olivia Chow. Before politics he was the founder of the Toronto City Hall progressive caucus tracking site. As a councillor he has focused on TTC service-level oversight, transit-priority lanes, the Ontario Line route choice, and the 2024 push to scrap the Gardiner Expressway eastern stub.
