Mike Farnworth is Deputy Premier of British Columbia (since November 18, 2024) and Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General (since November 18, 2024). NDP MLA for Port Coquitlam, first elected in 1991, defeated in 2001, returned in 2005, and re-elected at every general election since. One of the longest-serving members of the BC Legislature. Previously Government House Leader (2017-2024) under John Horgan and David Eby. As Public Safety Minister he has overseen the BC response to the toxic-drug crisis (the 2023 SCC ruling on safer-supply prescribing) and the auto-insurance reforms at ICBC.
