An Act to Establish a Public Auto Insurance Study
New Brunswick's Bill 17 establishes a binding public study on the feasibility of converting New Brunswick's private auto-insurance market to a public auto-insurance Crown corporation modelled on Manitoba's Manitoba Public Insurance (founded 1971), Saskatchewan's SGI (1945), or British Columbia's ICBC (1973). New Brunswickers pay the highest provincial average auto-insurance premiums in Atlantic Canada (Insurance Bureau of Canada 2024 data). The Holt Liberal government committed to the study during the 2024 campaign in response to multi-year premium-spike complaints. Final report due to the Legislative Assembly within 18 months of royal assent.
