Affordable Housing Acceleration Act
Nova Scotia's Bill 419 (Affordable Housing Acceleration Act) is the Houston PC government's 2024 statute creating a fast-track approval framework for affordable-housing projects in Nova Scotia. Sets binding municipal-approval timelines for housing projects of 100 units or more, gives the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing authority to issue Ministerial Approvals overriding municipal zoning when necessary to meet provincial housing targets (parallel to Ontario's Minister's Zoning Orders), and creates a new Provincial Affordable Housing Trust capitalized at $200 million over four years. Forms part of the province's 38,000 new homes by 2027 commitment under the Action for Housing plan.
