An Act respecting fossil fuel advertising
Bill C-372 was an NDP Private Member's Bill sponsored by MP Charlie Angus (Timmins-James Bay) prohibiting commercial advertising of fossil fuels in Canada, following the precedent of the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (S.C. 1997, c. 13) restricting tobacco advertising. The bill would have banned fossil-fuel advertising on broadcast, print, online, sponsorship, and outdoor displays similar to the EU 2024 Green Claims Directive. The bill drew opposition from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and supportive submissions from Environmental Defence and the Pembina Institute. Did not pass second reading.
