An Act to amend the Energy Efficiency Act
Bill S-4 is a Senate government bill amending the Energy Efficiency Act (S.C. 1992, c. 36) to update federal energy-efficiency standards for appliances, lighting, and commercial-building HVAC systems in line with international best practice (US Department of Energy standards, EU Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC). Brings new product categories under regulatory scope (electric-vehicle supply equipment, residential heat pumps, commercial refrigeration), adjusts existing minimum-efficiency thresholds, and creates statutory authority for the Minister of Natural Resources to set product-specific standards by regulation under the Canada Gazette Part II.
