Energy Statutes Amendment Act
British Columbia's Energy Statutes Amendment Act, sponsored by the Eby NDP government in 2024, was designed to fast-track the regulatory approval pathway for clean-energy projects (wind, solar, BC Hydro transmission expansion) to meet the CleanBC 2030 target and the federal Clean Electricity Regulations 2035 net-zero grid target. Allows the BC Energy Regulator (formerly the Oil and Gas Commission) to issue interim authorizations during environmental assessment, shortens the timelines for utility-rate hearings before the BC Utilities Commission, and revises First Nations consultation pathways under the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
